Right from the outset, a significant part of Aecern's work has been to design and construct new roof structures on old buildings, often as part of a programme of renovation.
Every project generates its own bespoke outcome. We can take design cues from relevant historical details or more modern influences (or an appropriate and sympathetic blend of the two) to develop the right roof structure. For example, aesthetic demands may call for exposed trusses, while practical considerations may mean that storage space needs to be maximised.
In conjunction with the client and/or their architect, we'll consider whether to use traditional techniques such as curved crucks, mortice and tenon joints and pegs – or to go for more modern fixings in green oak or softwoods.
Clients can choose their preferred external finish from a wide range of slate, tile or cedar shingle options. Aecern's combination of experience and design expertise ensure that our roofs do a great deal more than keep the rain out.
